Factors Influencing The Fermentation of Organic Fertilizer

Temperature

Temperature is an important index to show the degree of microbial activity in aerobic fermentation, and high temperature indicates that the fermentation is good. The state is usually improved by means of turning over and forced ventilation, thus promoting the rapid rise of the materials in the early stage, and maintaining the high temperature of 60-65° in the middle stage.

Humidity

Water is indispensable in microbial activity. In aerobic fermentation process, the suitable moisture content of material is 60%-70%. If the moisture content of material is less than 60%, the temperature will rise slowly and the decay degree is bad. Generally, fresh manure has higher water content, but the addition of rice husk, peat, sawdust, straw and other auxiliary materials can reduce water loss.

C/N

C/N is an important nutritional condition for microbial activity. Generally, the appropriate C/N for microbial reproduction of organic fertilizer equipment is 20-30. For example, the average C/N of pig manure is 14, so pig manure alone is not conductive to fermentation, then adding materials with high C/N ratio to adjust is necessary.

PH

PH has an important effect on microbial activity and nitrogen conservation. A large amount of ammonium nitrogen is produced during aerobic fermentation, which makes PH increase. However, the whole fermentation process is in alkaline environment, and the main adverse effect of high PH environment is increasing nitrogen loss. Adding straw, sawdust, chaff and other supplementary materials can promote the biological fixation of nitrogen, reduce the mineralization rate of nitrogen in the main materials during fermentation, and reduce the volatilization loss of ammonium nitrogen.
